From Birmingham to China……

Some years ago whilst travelling in India I was invited by my lovely friend to come to her country and teach Iyengar yoga. “I will organise everything” she said “you just come and teach”. Of course I said yes but it took me until April 2014 to find the courage and conviction to do it and what an adventure it was!

I flew from Delhi to Chengdu on 11th April and with the help of my super friend and host Ida and yoga translator extraordinaire Sheryl, I taught 4 day intensive courses in 4 different cities in the space of 3 weeks! From city to city we travelled together, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian and Urjo. We worked hard but always found time to see the sights, eat delicious vegetarian food and fit in a much needed Chinese foot massage where possible!

Before arriving I had had no experience of teaching an intensive course over several days and certainly not in China with a translator so as you can imagine I was a little concerned about how it would all go. I needn’t have been though as all of the students were lovely and had a real desire to learn. The majority were young and flexible but most had little or no experience of Iyengar yoga so I worked slowly and mindfully through the introductory syllabus. By the end of the first course I was feeling happy, relieved and much more confident so was able to develop my class plans to suit the nature of the students as we went along.

It was such an amazing experience both personally and professionally and I am really looking forwards to doing it all over again.
